Large Ship Cruises | Overview
When we say large ship, we mean everything that can carry over 1250 passengers. The newest of the ships has the capacity of over 6600. All these ships are floating resorts and each line has its distinct personality. The supersized ships are treated by some people as if they were a waterfront hotel. Many passengers do not get off the boat at the ports because of the available activities on board.
We have divided the large ships into Premier and Mainstream. The Premier lines are Cunard, Celebrity, Disney, Princess and Holland America. The Mainstream lines are Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Carnival, MSC and Costa.
These lines primarily cater to an English-speaking passenger base except for MSC and Costa. MSC is a privately-owned cruise line owned and run by an Italian Shipping Company. This line is making inroads into the North American market. Costa is part of Carnival Corporation and has a distinct Mediterranean aura.
